Pleasing sale results at Mallee Hill

Mallee Hill Stud had a near-total clearance at its 2025 on-property ram sale at Ceduna on Friday.

The stud’s 20th annual sale included a few new buyers in addition to long-term clients.

A total of 64 rams out of the 68 on offer sold, to a top price of $4000.

The average sale price was $1131.25.

The sale results left Mallee Hill stud principal Warren Beattie feeling “ecstatic”.

“It went beyond expectations considering how difficult the season has been,” he said.

“I am happy with the near clearance and top price, and the average was good – I was expecting it would be down.

“The quality of rams were pushing the sale to a good level considering the season. It was nice to see that level of clearance.”

Topping the sale was Lot 9, which went to Michael Glynn of MM & NA Glynn, buying through Elders Streaky Bay.

The top-priced ram saw a lower price than in 2024 – which came in at $5100 – however the sale average was higher than the $1011 achieved 12 months ago.

Lot 9 had a 20.8 micron, standard deviation of 2.8, coefficient variation of 13.3, comfort factor of 99.9 per cent, fat of 6.5, eye muscle depth of 39.8 and body weight of 119.5 kilograms.

It was a sire of Glenlea Park 122.

To mark the stud’s milestone 20th sale, proceeds from Lot 17 were donated to Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).

It was bought by Clint Oswald from Green Oaks Ag, Yaninee, for $1800.

“He had good size, nice wool and it was for a good cause,” he said.

This ram had a 21.6 micron, standard deviation of 2.2, coefficient variation of 11, comfort factor of 100 per cent, fat of 8, eye muscle depth of 40.2 and body weight of 117kg.

Koonawarra Station, a repeat Mallee Hill buyer, led the volume buying with 18 rams to $1000.

Green Oaks Ag picked up eight rams – including the RFDS ram – to $2200, while BW Zippel bought seven rams to $1000.

The sale was conducted by Quality Wool and Livestock.
