Allala sale offers quality

Allala Poll Merino Stud is preparing for its 22nd annual on-property sale next week.

Stud principal Cliff Phelps and his family will hold their sale 10 kilometres north of Kapinnie at 1pm on Friday, July 25, with 65 Poll Merino rams to be offered.

Mr Phelps said he expected plenty of regular buyers to attend as they look to boost their sheep stocks, with Nutrien Tumby Bay and Elders Cummins set to run the sale.

Of the 65 rams to be offered at the sale, Mr Phelps said there was a mixture of different bloodlines.

“There’s Rices Creek, Old Ashrose, North Ashrose, Old Kelvale and Nyowee, purchased at Adelaide ram sale for $24,000, Glenlea Park for $10,000 North Ashrose for $6000 on property. There will be direct sons from these rams in the 2025 auction,” he said.

“With my sheep body length and a straight top line, along with a good eye muscle, is important to me.

“Of the 65 rams I am offering, their average fleece micron is 19.2 and their eye muscle depth is 40.1 and their average weight is 100 kilograms, so they’re all around a good mark.”

Given the current sheep market, Mr Phelps said he expected prices to be about consistent with the 2024 sums, as something of a downturn was expected to continue to spread throughout Australia.

Mr Phelps said everyone was most welcome to come along to the sale and buy the Poll Merino rams on offer.
