EP Merinos on display at Wudinna

Graziers will have an opportunity to inspect the best Merino and Poll Merino rams on Eyre Peninsula on Monday, July 7.

The Eyre Peninsula Stud Merino Breeders Associations’ pre-sale expo will start at 10am at the Wudinna Showgrounds, with 20 studs taking part.

Association president Wes Daniell said the expo would be the perfect opportunity for commercial breeders from across the region and other areas of the state to come together and look at rams of interest.

The expo is well supported by major sponsors Elders and Curtis’s sale and services and Nutrien Ag solutions.

Stud will have their displays ready to view between 10am and 4pm.

Judging will start at 10.45am for the unhoused champion hogget competition, followed by The Elders’ Eyre Peninsula Champion Hogget ram of the year, once again sponsored by Curtis’s Sales and Services, who provide $1500 worth of product.

“We have Joe Murdoch from North Cowie/Glenlea Park Stud, judging this year,” Wes said.

“We are excited to introduce our inaugural junior judging competition, from 1pm and 3pm.”

Elders’ stud stock agent Alistair Keller will support the nominated ag students throughout the junior judging, with ag students having self-nominated by June 30.

“Conditions are tough for farmers at the moment with record low rainfall across Eyre Peninsula with no paddock feed, so the expo will be a great opportunity for everyone to get together for a sponsored lunch from Elders and Nutrien Ag solutions sponsoring the coffee,” he said.

“With near record high lamb and mutton price in recent times, those farmers who have been able to maintain stock numbers throughout the drought can hopefully see financial rewards, when the season turns around.

“We thank the Wudinna dance group Step It Up for once again taking on the catering and Range View Kitchen coffee van.”
