Explore 2026 Merino Expo

Top-tier Eyre Peninsula and SA genetics are rolling in to showcase at the 2026 Merino and Poll Merino Expo on Monday 6 July in Wudinna.

EP Merino Stud Breeders president Jayden Harris, who has been in the role since February and on the committee for about 15 years before that, is looking forward to the day.

Mr Harris said there would be 19 studs bringing a selection of their top sale rams in the lead-up to sale time.

“It’s three weeks before the first ram sale, giving buyers the opportunity to see what stock is coming up and what they like,” he said.

“This season has started off with a boom, sheep prices are really good and wool is firing.

“It’s been a good start and we’re excited to showcase the genetics for our ram sales.”

Wudinna Showgrounds offers the perfect format for the expo and community members can have a gander at trade displays with food and drinks supplied.

“There will be three lots of judging again this year – Unhoused Ram of the Year from 10.30am with the winner receiving a cash prize and the Elders Eyre Peninsula Hogget Ram of the Year following that. That winner will receive a prize pack from Curtis Sales and Service at Tumby Bay,” Mr Harris said.

“From 1.30pm junior judging competition for school aged children will commence. It started last year and was very successful in teaching younger people about the sheep industry.

“This year we’ve done something a bit different; the top three placing juniors will get a ticket to next year’s South Australian Sheep Expo.”

Major sponsors for the event include Elders, Nutrien Ag Solution, Curtis’ and the Eyre Peninsula Advocate.

Farmers and farming enthusiasts are set for an exciting 2026 Merino and Poll Merino Expo.
