Cowell Agfert official opening

Agfert Fertilizers officially opened its new Eyre Peninsula Distribution Facility at Cowell, a move set to strengthen supply options for growers across the region.

The opening ceremony, held on 20 January, was officiated by Primary Industries Shadow Minister Nicola Centofanti MLC, and saw strong support from the local farming community.

The facility was built in early 2025 to complement Agfert’s long-standing Balaklava operation, which has been in service since 1975.

Following a successful soft start last season where more than 150 growers utilised the site, Agfert is launching the new season with full momentum.

Agfert business growth and relations chief officer Tim Gurney said it was encouraging to see Eyre Peninsula growers embracing greater competition and convenience.

“It’s pleasing to see EP growers supporting more choice in the marketplace,” Mr Gurney said.

Local growers have already noted the logistical benefits of the new hub.

Cleve grower John Turnbull described the service as a “game changer” during the busy seeding period.

“Direct from supplier to air cart means less on-farm storage, better use of assets and more efficient use of labour,” he said.

“The free storage removes stress and adds real value, we’ll be fully utilising and have taken advantage of this new opportunity.”

In addition to core fertiliser services, the opening event featured dinner and presentations from Peats Soils and LawrieCo, highlighting the carbon and compost products that were now available through the Agfert network.

Agfert managing director Grant Jaeschke said the investment reflected the company’s dedication to grower profitability and innovation.

“The ease of doing business, efficient loading, strategic location and wide range of blends make it attractive for both growers and carriers,” he said.

With the facility fully tested and ready for the upcoming season, Mr Jaeschke believed the investment provided a significant boost for confidence across the peninsula.

“We’re focused on offering innovative products that improve returns and help growers stay ahead of change.”

“This investment is a strong boost for confidence across the Eyre Peninsula. The new facility is built, tested and ready to go for the new season.”
