The tennis nets at Elliston Community Sports Centre will be replaced – thanks to a $500 council community grant.
At the December meeting of the Elliston District Council it was voted to approve the grant, which is about half the cost to replace the three tennis nets at the complex.
Councillor Ashley Traeger moved and councillor Tony Custance seconded that the council would provide the grant as the nets hadn’t been replaced for about 15 years.
That was when the courts were upgraded and the nets had degraded to a point where they needed replacing.
The council owns the centre and infrastructure but the centre maintains the court surfaces.
Centre secretary Kristy Newton said the tennis nets were used by the school, community members as well as tourists visiting the district.
She said they provided an opportunity for local families, tourists, school students and the men’s social competition to engage in physical activity and improve social connections.
The school also contributed to the cost of the nets.
