Waters shows shear class

Brandon Waters knows how to get the fleece off a sheep quickly – winning the open speed shearing event at the 2025 Wudinna Show in a time of 28.78 seconds.

He was one of three shearers in the open event to finish shearing his sheep in under half a minute, with David Jackson completing his in 29.46 seconds for second place and Sam Bacon recording 29.69 seconds to claim third prize.

Waters also won the open sports shearing event, with Sam Bacon second, Jaiden Nottle third and Craig Brands fourth.

Female shearer Nicole Vandenbroek showed she can match it with the boys – winning the novice sports shearing competition, with Blain Brands placing second.

Jamestown shearer Ben Rolph won the intermediate sports shearing, with George Jacka second and Cowell shearer Nate Baker in third.

The intermediate speed shearing was won by Hayden Brands in a time of 31.93 seconds, with Cowell shearer Nate Baker second (45.18 seconds) and Ben Rolph third (48.85 seconds).

Kimba shearer Mitchell Yates won the senior sports shearing, ahead of Lachy Whittaker, Tyson Jackson and Daniel Michelmore.

The speed shear is purely on time, though competitors are disqualified if they do not shear their sheep to the judges’ satisfaction.

In the sports shearing competitors receive points for their board work, their finished pen of sheep and their time, which are added together to determine the result, with the closest score winning.
