Marvellous murals

Cleve

The mural titled ‘Sunsets and Regeneration’ was painted by ‘Mural Nomad’ Patrycja Hannagan in February 2024. It was painted on the side of the Cleve Memorial Hall, which is located on Fourth Street, and portrays the changes in farming over the years, with a farmer using a tablet to control his machinery.

Cowell

The Cowell silo mural depicts local identity Lionel Deer and his camel Diamantina. Mr Deer was most known in the Cowell community for bringing his camels to the Cowell Christmas Pageant for more than 30 years. The mural was painted in September 2019 by Austin Moncrieff, also known as “!NITSUA”.

Kimba

The massive 60-metre wide and 25-metre high silo mural shows a young girl standing in a wheat field overlooking a magnificent purple sunset viewed through endless wheat fields. Artist Cam Scale painted the mural in September 2017 and it was the first piece of silo art on Eyre Peninsula and the second in South Australia.

Lock

The mural commemorates Sergeant Albert Ernest Lock, who died of wounds in World War I. The town of Lock is named in his honour. The mural was painted in 2020 by Cummins mural artist James Pedler. It is located on the corner of Tod Highway and Ettridge Street.

Port Lincoln

This mural was painted by local Barngala artist Vera Richards and was installed at the red shed at Brennan’s Wharf in 2022. It tells the Barngarla Dreaming of Port Lincoln and surrounds as well as songlines and creation stories that cross Australia, such as the Seven Sisters Dreaming.

Tumby Bay

The Tumby Bay silos were painted in April 2018 by Argentinean artist Martin Ron and were the third to be painted in South Australia. The mural was based on an image taken by photographer Robert Lang in January 2014, which featured local boys Eli Carmody and Morris Webb jumping off the Tumby Bay jetty on a very hot summer’s afternoon.
