The Tumby Bay Dragon Boaters ‘hammed it up’ for the Christmas Pageant Parade, mustering in Wibberley Street, negotiating the foreshore and completing their journey at the Travellers Rest.
They were joined by many other colourful floats and vehicles, displaying Christmas cheer with locals and visitors enjoying the spectacle.
Paddlers and Father Christmas’s helpers assisted the Blue Water Raiders make their way along the streets, sharing confections with the eager rows of strategically gathered children.
Thanks goes to the merry helpers, including Pam Coote from Victor Harbor, co-pilot to driver, Grant Coote; Kyan Lawrie for his eagerness in being designated ‘chief lolly thrower’, and Jody Demaage for keeping the dragon boat drum in rhythm to the excitement of the crowd.
Whilst some paddlers were away visiting family and friends for Christmas, other family members joined the crew for the Sunday morning planned paddles, making the most of the opportunity to experience dragon boating in Tumby Bay.
In the marina, only metres from the dragon boat, to the surprise and joy of all, an adult seal raised its head and joined the group briefly in the morning quiet.
The unexpected visitor was also enjoyed and monitored by a number of marina residents.
